TV Pro Compatibiity
The adaptor contains an inbuilt processor which is powered via the HDMI connector, including the AppleTV HDMI output, so an external power surce is not required. A few devices, however, have power saving implementations which do not provide normal power on the HDMI cable (for example MacBook Pro Retina). If you wish to use the adaptor with these, it is simple to use a USB to mini-USB cable (not supplied) to supply 5Vdc to the auxilliary power socket on the adaptor, then it works as usual.
