With a heightened awareness of global warming and an increasing consumer demand for technology devices for the home and office, there is a growing need to not only protect the equipment from damaging electrical surges and spikes but also reduce the total energy we consume.
Standby power is a key target for energy reduction as it continually wastes power "just like a leaky tap".

How it Works
Crest Earth Smart has a 'master' outlet socket to plug in a key AV component or desktop computer, as well as four or five 'slave' sockets. The master outlet determines the 'on' and 'off' power levels. This ensures the slave components switch on or off accordingly and prevents the slave components from drawing on wasteful standby power until the master device is turned back on.
Surge Protection
- Maximum Spike current (AMPS):
- 144,000 amps; Spike current is measured by amperage. A higher amperage reflects greater absorption capacity against a sudden dramatic power spike.
- Maximum Surge (joules):
- 3,672 joules: a higher joule rating reflects a greater absorption of a surge in energy.
- Unlimited Connected Equipment Warranty:
- Should any connected equipment be damaged from a power disturbance, Crest will repair or replace the equipment that was properly connected to your Earth Smart power board.
Global Warming and the Greenhouse Effect
The vast majority of Australia's electricity is made through the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) which produce carbon dioxide (CO2), the greatest contributor to the "Greenhouse Effect". The subsequent build up of CO2 in the lower atmosphere effectively traps in the heat similar to the way a greenhouse works - hence the term 'greenhouse gases' and 'greenhouse effect'. This natural process is crucial for maintaining balanced temperature conditions that are necessary for life on earth.
However, when the balance of greenhouse gases is disrupted, more heat is trapped and the earth gradually heats up. The growing problem we face today is that human actions are increasing the concentrations of these greenhouse gases well above natural levels, creating the Enhanced Greenhouse Effect, which leads to the associated problems of global warming.

The Earth Smart board is Carbon Neutral
Crest has teamed up with the Carbon Reduction Institute to ensure each powerboard itself is "carbon neutral" from manufacture to point of sale. " The Institute will measure the emissions embodied in the product from 'Cradle to Retail'".
Gavin Pereira from the Carbon Reaction Institute states: "Once a conservative figure for this impact is reached, Crest Electronics will purchase the equivalent number of carbon credits needed to offset the emissions from the board.
