With sustained reads up to 559MB/s and writes up to 527MB/s, up to 100X greater data protection than enterprise class Hard Disk Drives, and RAISE technology for RAID like data protection and reliability, the OWC Mercury EXTREME SSD line delivers unbeatable performance that's designed and built in the U.S. from domestic and imported parts.
Replace your conventional hard drive with a reliable solid state drive. Unlike traditional hard disk drives, OWC solid state drives have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly rugged storage solution that also offers faster system responsiveness.
OWC SSDs allocate some of the drive capacity for RAISE, to provide real time data redundancy, ECC Error Correction, and reserve cell space.
Example: A 240GB OWC Mercury EXTREME Pro SSD is actually a 256GB drive with 7% of the drive's capacity allocated for data management. This management maintains the drive's high-performance and high reliability levels. Unlike many SSDs on the market today, the Mercury Pro family uses advanced DuraWrite wear-leveling and block management technologies to keep Read/Write performance at peak, while others see performance fall.
This OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD is performance certified for use with all Macs and PCs equipped with SATA Revisions 3.0, 2.0, and 1.0 interfaces (SATA 6Gb/s, 3Gb/s & 1.5Gb/s) except for the following machines:
2008/2009 MacBook/MacBook Pro 13", 15", and 17" models. (Model IDs: MacBookPro5,1; 5,2; 5,3; 5,4; 5,5 and MacBook5,1)
While a 6G SSD does function, it will only do so at SATA Revision 1.0 (1.5Gb/s) speeds rather that the SATA Revision 2.0 (3.0Gb/s) speed the machine can deliver. Should owners of these machines desire another SSD option, the Mercury Extreme Pro 3G SSD does run at the full SATA Revision 2.0 (3Gb/s) specification.
2011 MacBook Pro 17" Now 6G Capable!
Thanks to Apple's Macbook Pro EFI Firmware update 2.2 released on 9/14/2011, OWC has test confirmed proper operation of OWC 6G SSDs in all 2011 MacBook Pro 17" (Model ID MacBookPro8,3) models. After successfully applying this update, your Boot ROM Version will be: MBP81.0047.B1E.
