BrightEra is a brand name for the category of next-generation LCD panels developed by Sony using state-of-the-art manufacturing technology. BrightEra technology offers the following advancements:
Inorganic Alignment Film
Many LCD projectors with high brightness incorporate a high-voltage mercury lamp. The light that radiates from a mercury lamp includes high-energy UV light, which can damage the alignment film of an LCD panel. Most LCD projectors incorporate a UV-cut filter to eliminate UV light, but a very small amount of UV light can still pass through this filter. To solve this problem, the BrightEra LCD panel adopts inorganic material for the alignment film that is extremely resistant to UV light, greatly enhancing reliability even from long-term radiation of intense light. This allows the projector to integrate a high-power light source without increasing the panel size, and to offer extremely high brightness.
Pixels with a Large Aperture Ratio
The BrightEra LCD panel is manufactured using Sonys cutting-edge micro-machining technology. Thanks to this manufacturing technology, the area of each thin film transistor (TFT) of the BrightEra LCD panel can be reduced by approximately 70% compared to conventional LCD panels, resulting in an increase of the aperture ratio by approximately 20%.This high aperture ratio allows for higher light transmission, and significantly increases the brightness of the LCD panel.
Normally Black Mode System
The BrightEra LCD panel adopts the normally black mode system that was originally developed for the SXRD panels. This system can provide an extremely deep black level, leading to a high contrast ratio. Thanks to BrightEra technology, Sonys projectors can provide extremely bright and high-contrast images.
