ATEN Petite 2 port USB KVM Switch with Audio - Cables Built In

This is, all in all, a good unit, and I am glad that I got it. 1 thing I learned though, and this wasnt mentioned anywhere I could see: The unit always gets its power from the USB cable coming out of computer number one, not computer number 2. Make sure that the computer you make computer number 1 is the computer you will be switching on first, otherwise the KVM unit wont receive power and will not work.

ATEN CS-62U Review

The VGA cables are a bit thin for my liking, especially compared to the VGA cable for the monitor, however they appear to do the job. Im running at 1600x1200@75 on both my Windows and Linux computers. There are two USB type A ports, one for the mouse and one for the keyboard. The mouse one is a pass through and whatever you plug in seems to work as though it was plugged into the computer directly. Ive tried plugging in my digital camera and a Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro 2.0 (which has both keyboard and mouse) and they both work (note that because the keyboard is plugged into the mouse port you cant switch computers with it). The keyboard USB type A port is a bit different since the ATEN CS-62U needs to intercept the keystrokes to detect hotkeys, such as double scroll lock to switch between the two computers. This is a problem as it doesnt work with my Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro 2.0. When it is plugged in the mouse works correctly. However the keyboard works for approximately 5 secs then stops working for approximately 5 secs. This cycle repeats forever. It appears that the ATEN CS-62U is polling to get information or trying to configure the keyboard but is unable to and then retries approximately 5 secs later. During the polling or attempted configuration the keyboard is completely unusable. This is only a problem with my Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro 2.0. I have also tested the following keyboards and they work as expected: - Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro 1.0 - Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro Unfortunately since the ATEN CS-62U doesnt has a button to switch located on it you have to have a keyboard that works plugged into the keyboard USB port. I have one of my other keyboards plugged into the keyboard USB port so that I can switch with it, however this very inconvenient. Another thing to note with regard to the Microsoft keyboards is that on each switch the power to
